The company that Forbes named the 58th largest private company in the year 2016 with a net worth of $6.1 billion, began under the name of Otto and Sons. Otto and Sons became the main suppliers of meat to the first McDonald’s chain restaurant which was initiated in the year of 1955. After a while Otto and Son’s collaboration with McDonald’s proved crucial as a chain of restaurants began opening through the Midwest. The factor which allowed Otto and Sons to shift their growth into hyper drive was their early adoption of the technological advancements of liquid nitrogen cryogenic freezing. Their vision for the impact that this technology would have on food production, storage, and transportation is what allowed them to transform from Otto and Sons into the massive billion dollar company they are today.

The company’s current CEO, Sheldon Lavin, is urging the group to embrace new technologies, strategies and innovations in order to craft the companies efficiency. In the interest of sustainability, in 2017, OSI group created a new position of chief sustainability officer, which was given to Nicole Johnson – Hoffman.
